• Tonal range/editing/enhancing a photograph
• Framing/space
• Viewpoint/scale

Q

How does aperture impact a photograph

A

A small aperture (deep depth of field) means that all of the image is in focus (good
for landscapes).
A wide aperture (shallow depth of field) means the background is blurred so that
the objects at the front usually stand out.
A small aperture lets in less light whereas a wide aperture lets in more light

Q

How does shutter speed impact on a photograph

A

Fast shutter speed – to capture a freeze frame image
Slow shutter speed – to capture motion blur

Q

How does ISO impact a photo

A

A low ISO – 100/200 would be used for a sunny day with good lighting conditions
A standard ISO of 400 would be used on a cloudy day
A high ISO would be used in poor lighting conditions, but you would risk ‘noise’ in
the photograph, reducing the quality of the image

17
Q

How do different lenses impact a photo

A

Different lenses effect the point of view of the image
Standard lens – human eye view
Telephoto lens captures detail in the distance

18
Q

How does polarising filter impact a photo

A

Used to darken skies, manage reflections, or to suppress glare from the surface of lakes or the sea.

19
Q

How does a lens hood impact a photo

A

Is used to block the sun or other direct light sources, to prevent glare and lens flare

20
Q

How does a neutral density filter impact a photo

A

Causes overall dimming without changing the colour. This is useful for when the lighting conditions are too bright but would not be useful in low lighting

21
Q

How does a reflector impact a photo

A

Is used to bounce light in a certain direction, used in portrait photography.

22
Q

How does a soft box impact a photo

A

Soft boxes are commonly used in photography as a soft source of light that minimizes harsh shadows. Use in portrait photography to diffuse light.

23
Q

What effect does foreground middle ground and background have on a photo

A

describe the object in the foreground and how this creates depth and add to perspective

24
Q

How does framing impact a photo

A

Used to draw your eye into a point of interest, could be a natural frame like an archway drawing in the eye.

25
How does rule of thirds impact a photo
Having your main on object to the side creates a balanced composition which is pleasing to the eye.
26
How does symmetry impact a photo
Is aesthetically pleasing and can be used to create a balanced image.
27
How does leading lines impact a photo
When lines are used to lead your eye into a point of interest.
28
How does focal point impact a photo
This is when an object is the clear focus of the painting (a plain background to make a detailed person stand out).
29
How does scale impact a photo
Look at the objects in the photograph are some objects larger so they have more visual impact?
30
How does a busy composition impact a photo
Used to create a chaotic mood or so that there are lots of different objects to look at/objects are laid out naturally.
31
How does an organised composition impact a photo
The objects are placed in an organised manner to create a sense of calm.
32
How does a triangular composition impact a photo
Objects are placed to create triangle shape which creates a solid structure, and it is easier for your eyes to look around the photograph.
33
How does the rule of odds impact a photo
An odd number of objects, for example 3 is more pleasing to the eye and more natural.
34
How does viewpoint impact a photo
Human’s eye view, eye level with the viewer. A bird’s eye view – looking down on the photograph making objects appear smaller. A worms eye view – looking up at the objects making them appear bigger.
35
How does orientation impact a photo
Portrait or landscape orientation and how this impacts the layout of the photograph.
36
How does white balance impact a photo
Tungsten – is often used while shooting indoors for light under a light bulb. The tungsten setting cools down the colour temperature in photos. This mode helps pick the right White Balance under low light conditions.
37
how does location impact a photo
Where has the photograph been taken? What is in the background of the photograph? Why is this important?
38
How does decor impact a photo
Does the décor add to the photograph? Has it been taken in a certain place, culture or time period?
39
How does pose/facial expression impact a photo
If there is a model, what emotions have been captured through facial expressions or body language?
40
How does mood and atmosphere impact a photo
How has the photographer communicated the mood of the photograph? Through subject matter, location, lighting etc.
41
How does subject matter impact a photo
Is the photograph a landscape, portrait, still life. What is important about the subject matter?
42
How does the exposure triangle impact a photo
How have aperture, shutter speed and ISO been used to create the right exposure
