What experience do you have working with children?
1 year placement Nazareth house - where I discovered I liked working with nursery aged children
1 year placement in year 1 and 2 - setting I have felt most comfortable at and gained experience working with slightly older children
Nursery - SEN experience, EAL children, physical disabilities
Breakfast club/after school club all year groups

What do you understand the role of a TA to be?
How do you support teacher in the classroom?
Important qualities of a TA?
Role of a TA - supporting class management, individual and group student support, preparing materials, working with parents
Assist with various tasks (pupil passports, interventions, preparing activities and resources, basic needs like nappies) that allows teacher to focus on instruction and student learning
Manage student behaviour and supporting students with specific needs
Flexibility, responding to instruction, communication, teamwork, empathy and patience
How would you handle a disruptive student?
PREVENTION - build strong relationships, have clear expectations, keep students engages, model good behaviour
Stay calm
Address the behaviour, not the student
Provide warnings and choices
Possible time out - brief quiet break to reflect
Seek support from colleagues if needed
Consistency
Communicate with parents
How to support student struggling academically?
Supportive environment
Encourage active learning - making learning fun

Remained calm and explained multiple times that seesaw is how we communicate these things

Focused my attention on the child - who didn’t want to go with her mum
Reassured her that it’s okay and de escalated the situation so she wouldn’t feel scared
Informed other staff that there may be an incident, so they were aware and ready to support
Why TA instead of teacher?
What are your long term career goals?
Currently feel most confident when following instructions and supporting a class teacher
As I’m young I want to persue being a TA so I can gain more experience and skills in teaching children
Not sure about the future yet but I have a passion for working with children and know this is what I want to do
Describe a time you had to multitask, work under pressure, be in a fast paced environment
Uniform shop
Summer rush of customers and children
Running up and down, memorising schools and sizes of multiple customers at a time, dealing with disruptive customers
Studied the layout of upstairs and different sizing of schools
Remained calm and had a postibe attitude throughout
What strategies do you use to effectively manage your time on the job?
Follow the teachers timetable
Always make sure I go to lunch on time so it doesn’t disrupt others
Regularly checking the clock to ensure I’m being productive
How to handle a situation where you have a difference of opinion from the teacher?
Demonstrate ability to communicate respectfully
