Talking - includes spch & vocalizing

What is non-linguistic or extralinguistic?
The use of eye contact, facial expression, posture, and proximity.
Ex: nodding, shrugging, smiling
What is para-linguistic?
Vocal characteristics such as tone, pitch, and loudness
Ex: sarcasm, being upset(pitch)
What part of the ear is affected by a conductive hearing loss?
Conductive hearing loss results from problems with the middle ear
What part of the ear is affected by a sensorineural hearing loss?
Sensorineural hearing loss results from damage to the inner ear
What are the differences in comm, lang, and spch?
Comm: main purpose is to provide and solicit information
Lang: formulation of thoughts and ideas is cognitive
Spch: a neuromuscular process (the brain tells muscles what to do)
