Quiz 2 Corrections Flashcards
(9 cards)
Summarize the three parts of cell theory.
All living things are made up of cells, cells are the smallest units of life, all cells come from preexisting cells through the process of cell division.
List three characteristics or structures that all cells share.
Plasma membrane, mitochondria, and DNA.
Differentiate between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.P
Prokaryotic cells have a nucleus while eukaryotic cells do not.
Describe the structure of the phospholipid bilayer.
The phospholipid bilayer consists of two layers of phospholipids, with a hydrophobic, or water-hating, interior and a hydrophilic, or water-loving, exterior.
State the function of the plasma membrane as it relates to homeostasis.
The plasma membrane maintains homeostasis in the cell by keeping cell contents in and foreign material out, and by providing controlled avenues for the transportation of fuel, fluids and waste.
Predict what would happen to a cell if its plasma membrane lost its selective permeability. Explain.
Water and nutrients wouldn’t be able to go in and out of the cell because the plasma membrane is the thing that is in the cell that lets the water and nutrients in because it is permeable.
List the two major components of the cytoskeleton of a cell.
Microtubules and microfilaments.
Identify the structure other than a cell wall or a vacuole that might be found in a plant cell but not in an animal cell. Explain why an animal cell would not have the structure you identify.
A cell wall. An animal wouldn’t have a cell wall because cell wall is only permeable to certain molecules.
Label the parts of the microscope.
Ocular lens, magnification lens, light, coarse focus knob, fine focus knob, base and stage.
