23
Q

GPS

A

radio waves are transverse waves similar to light (require line of sight)
GPS satellites work by sending out pulses of radio wave signals
requires triangulation and trilateration
have range of accuracy not 100% accurate

24
Q

transmitting radio waves

A

can be affected by weather in space and on the earth, solar flares, the curve of the earth, and interference by objects such as power lines, radio stations, mountains and trees, buildings
atomic time and atomic clocks in the satellites
Pseudo Random Code (PRC), each satellite has its own

25
Q

pseudo random code (PRC)

A

a very complicated digital code, or in other words, a complicated sequence of “on” and “off” pulses

26
Q

equation that allows GPS to work

A

distance = rate X time

clock needs to provide the right time

27
Q

uses for drones

A

photography, agriculture, surveillance, weather tracking, search and rescue, disaster relief

28
Q

rules and regulations of drones

A

have to have certification (COA), LINE OF SIGHT (when flown for hobby), don’t fly within 5 miles of airport, don’t fly for commercial purposes or payment, 16 years old to become remote pilot, max altitude 400 ft (planes min altitude is 500 ft), daylight flights only

29
Q

encryption

A

using a code, like an enigma

30
Q

password entropy

A

randomness or chaos of the password
length is most critical
protects against brute force attack on password

31
Q

social engineering

A

sometimes called marketing

using basic human nature against people

32
Q

two factor authentication

A

two parts: something i know, something i have

33
Q

ransomware

A

encrypts your hard drive and holds it ransom until you pay for the decryption code

34
Q

cyrpto mining

A

extension will run while browser is open and will use hardware to mine crypto currency

35
Q

steps used to protect identity, information, and privacy

A

keep software updated, don’t run as Admin on your PC, use multi factor passphrases, have a working backup, think and question everything

36
Q

Write down two medical or scientific advancements that took place because of Henrietta Lacks’ cells.

A

Two advancements that stem from Henrietta Lack’s cells are IVF and vaccines. IVF developed as we learned how to keep cells alive outside the body and the polio vaccines was also developed from studying her cells.

37
Q

Describe what benevolent deception is and how it was used as a common practice before ethical standards prevented it.

A

Benevolent deception is the idea that what someone doesn’t know won’t hurt them. Many doctors used these methods when they were developing the technologies of artificial insemination and IVF. Steptoe used it on the Browns when he performed the first case of IVF, he was very discrete and careful in his description of the process.

38
Q

Give me two reasons why an insect-based diet is sustainable; give me one reason why it may be an unsustainable solution.

A

Insect based diets are sustainable because they are easy to farm as well as very nutritious and full of vitamins. The problem that insect based diets face are societal, in most cultures it’s frowned upon to eat insects.

39
Q

Please complete the RISK ASSESSMENT EQUATION by telling me what goes in these blank spaces.
_____________________ + ________________________ + ______________________ = RISK

A

Hazards + Assets at Risk + Vulnerabilities = Risk

40
Q

List three types of bias and briefly describe how each of them influence personal action or perspective.

A

Three types of bias are in-group bias, negativity bias, and a gambler’s fallacy. In-group bias causes us to be over confident in those who are part of our group and we exaggerate their capabilities. Negativity bias, we tend to look at all of the negative aspects of a debate, it’s a very pessimistic view. Gambler’s Fallacy, we put a lot of weigh on what will happen in the future based on what has happened in the past.

41
Q

Why would someone consider having a digital baby before having a live baby? Specifically, give me a potential, but direct benefit.

A

Digital babies allow a couple to see how their children would turn out, they can see if they are a good match genetically. A potential benefit would be healthier children who have the best genes.

42
Q

credentials

A

a user’s authentication information like username and password

43
Q

cracking a password

A

a phrase we use for obtaining a password using malicious means. this may include a hacker trying to retrieve your password by simply guessing or using software to try thousands of password combinations

44
Q

vulnerability

A

from a computer security standpoint, we use the term to represent any weakness in a computer system, hardware, or software

45
Q

special characters

A

non alphabetic or numeric

!@#$%*

46
Q

Authentication

A

a process that provides proof that the person who is trying to log in is, in fact, the correct person and authorized to access the network

47
Q

brute force attack

A

a trial and error method used to obtain information, such as user passwords

48
Q

phishing

A

process of attempting to acquire sensitive information such as usernames and passwords by masquerading as a trustworthy source by using bulk email. its a form of fraudulent social engineering

49
Q

malware

A

an umbrella term used to refer to a wide variety of viruses, worms, Trojans, and other programs that a hacker can use to damage or steal from your computer

50
Q

spoofing

A

tricking or deceiving computer systems.

51

A

zero

54
