Q

Nutrition

A

Different types of nutrition: Autotrophic & Heterotrophic

Autotrophic: Able to synthesize organic nutrients from simple inorganic raw materials, producers, don’t need to “eat”

Heterotrophic: Must ingest/absorb preformed organic nutrients, consumers, eat (ingest)

Nutrition: the taking in of raw materials(ingestion), breaking them down into a usable form (digestion), and removal of undigested food (egestion). (Non-metabolic waste)

Q

Respiration

A

occurs in all organisms
Is the release of (production of) usable chemical energy (ATP) from the breakdown of organic molecules usually sugar

The release of energy from food

Aerobic respiration: requires oxygen

Anaerobic respiration=fermentation: does not require oxygen
