radiology Flashcards
(16 cards)
What are the four main topics covered in Radiology Basics?
Conventional Radiographs, Ultrasound, Computed Tomography, MRI
What is conventional radiography?
A method that uses X-rays, a form of energy, to create a two-dimensional image of a three-dimensional structure.
Who typically gets X-rays?
Patients with trauma, infective processes, malignancies, and those needing follow-up after treatment.
What are some advantages of X-rays?
Easily accessible, quick, does not require specialized assessment, inexpensive, and can be done at the bedside.
What are some disadvantages of X-rays?
They provide a 2D image of a 3D structure, involve ionizing radiation, and pose risks to pregnant patients.
What is the normal cardiothoracic ratio in a chest X-ray?
Less than 50%.
What is the focus-film distance for adult chest X-rays?
180 cm.
What condition was diagnosed in Case 1?
RUL pneumonia.
What condition was diagnosed in Case 2?
RUL Collapse.
What condition was diagnosed in Case 3?
Pulmonary TB.
What condition was diagnosed in Case 4?
Miliary TB.
What condition was diagnosed in Case 5?
Asthma.
What condition was diagnosed in Case 6?
COPD.
What condition was diagnosed in Case 7?
Distal diaphyseal tibia fracture.
What condition was diagnosed in Case 8?
Neck of femur fracture.
How are ultrasound images obtained?
By shooting a beam of high frequency sound into soft tissue and capturing the sound that returns to the probe.
