1
Q

Factors that can be varied to affect what you get

A
  • Kilovoltage (KV) - degree of beam penetration
  • Milliamperage (MA) - amount of radiation in beam
  • Timing - length of exposure
2
Q

Posteroanterior (PA) View

A
  • Xray passes through pt from back to front
  • cassette placed in patients front
  • Heart wont be magnified bc is close to film
  • Most common
3
Q

Anteroposterior (AP) View

A
  • Xray passes through pt from front to back
  • cassette placed in patients back
  • Heart might be magnified bc is farther from casette
4
Q

Lateral View

A
  • Projection is made passing through side to side
  • Named from whichever side is closest to film on chest, abdomen, or skull
  • Extremities named by right or left side of body being examined
  • Left view is typical bc heart wont be enlarged bc is closer to film
  • Most common
5
Q

Lordotic View

A
  • Standing AP Xray of chest where pt arches back to elevate clavicles above apices of lungs
  • Limited to chest xray
  • good for pancoast tumor or TB
  • Heart appears enlarged
6
Q

Oblique View

A
  • Named by relationship of pt to film and side of body closest to film
  • Usually degree of rotation is between frontal and lateral
  • Helps localize or separate out lesions and project them free of overlying structures
7
Q

Cross Table Lateral View

A
  • Horizontal beam w pt lying on back

- Rarely used, but good for lateral C-spine for trauma

8
Q

Lateral Decubitus View

A
  • Performed w pt laying down
  • Named for side that is down
  • Usually PA position w horizontal beam
  • Good to demonstrate air/fluid levels, free pleural fluid, pneumothorax bc fluid will pool from gravity
  • Mostly used for chest/abdominal systems
9
Q

AP Recumbant

A

-Chest Xray taken w pt laying on back w vertical x-ray beams

10
Q

Coronal Plane

A
  • In an anteroposterior position:
  • Divides front and back, vertical through mid-axillary line
  • MRIs usually done in this plane
11
Q

Sagittal Plane

A
  • in a Mediolateral direction
  • Side to side vertically, splits left and right halves
  • mammogram, lateral films
12
Q

Axial Plane

A
  • In a transverse direction
  • Top to bottom, cuts into upper and lower halves
  • CT
