Contributes to security of NA area by guaranteeing freedom & security of members via political & military means
Decisions based on consensus, council meet each week/whenever is problem with secretary general steering process of decision making within alliance & ensuring decisions=implemented
How can the nato members guarantee freedom & security of members?
Through political and military means
Political - democratic allowing members to co operate on defence & security related issues to solve problems, build trust in long run preventing conflict
Military - committed to peaceful resolutions of disputes (if diplomatic efforts fail, military has power to undertake crisis management operations)
How many raf bases are there in the uk and oversea?
7 main operating bases in UK
(35 altogether)
Largest base = raf brize Norton (Oxfordshire)
4 permanent bases overseas
(Cyprus, Gibraltar, Ascension Island, Canada)
By having bases overseas, British armed forces can maintain forward presence
