Rainforests Flashcards

Deforestation
The removal of a forest of stand of trees where the land is thereafter converted to something of a non forest use. The most concentrated deforestation occurs in tropical rainforests.
Explain Four major factors that deforestation has on the society
As forest are cleared and new occupiers move in the indigenous people of the region are often displaced na their traditions and cultures die out. Landslides become more often as the roots that keep the soil together are ripped apart. As animals disperse new disease are transferred to the human population which may cause an outbreak. As well as this most forests are destroyed with fire which releases carbon dioxide into the air contributing to global warming.

Other factors of reduction of Ria forest in Aus
The gradual movement of Australia southwards from Gondwana land and a series of ice ages made Australia very dry making it harder for Rainforest to grow. Rainforest have now become confined mainly to the mountains and forges of the great dividing range. As well as this farming practices of the European immigrants ruined the rain forest.
Why are rainforests labelled the lungs of the earth
Tropical rainforests take in large amounts of carbon dioxide and release oxygen for us or breathe.Rainforests work as a filter form the air we breathe.
The effects of the rainforest and its implications on climate
Rainforest play a vital role in controlling the worlds climate. Firstly, the dark canopy absorbs heat rather than reflecting it. The canopy then shelters the lower plants making it cooler near the ground. Roots then absorb rain and the moisture moves up the trees to then form clouds when water vapour. This causes precipitation.
