Q

what are the two main reasons RCS beyond AR are equipped with LVA (low of voltage automatic) relay to non automatic

A

a. Permanent faults on the source side of the AR would result in an unnecessary automatic operation of the RCS device.
b. Field ARs are typically configured with a 30-second automatic reclose. To avoid subjecting the RCS device to fault current and energy beyond its design, a line section should never be tested unless the RCS device is fully open.
