Re-sit Cardiology Flashcards
(12 cards)
What is SV and what does it do?
Stroke volume which is blood pumped by left ventricle in one beat
What is PVR and what is it
Peripheral Vascular Resistance- Tightness of vessels
What is diastole
The relax
What is systole
The contacting
Does bp go up or down dusting vasoconstriction
Up
Does bp go up or down during vasodialation.
Bp goes down
Name 3 differences between veins and arteries
Arteries take blood away from heart whereas veins take blood to the heart
Arteries have high pressure whereas veins have low pressure
Arteries have thick muscular walls whereas veins have thin muscular walls.
Why bp falling causes higher cardiac input
Vasoconstriction to increase venous return
Heart rate increases to boost cardiac output
What is blood pressure.
Blood pressure is the force your body exerts against the artery walls.
What are Baroreceptors?
Stretch sensitive nerve endings.
Where are Baroreceptors (BR)
Carotid Sinus
Aortic arch
How does a Baroreceptors work?
They sense a stretch and signals brain to lower heart rate and dilate blood vessels to reduce pressure.
