What is this chapter about?
This chapter explains why people and the world are not the way God originally created them to be. The main reason: sin.
What is sin?
Sin means humans chose to disobey God, turning away from how we were meant to live. It’s not just bad behavior—it’s a broken relationship with God.
Why is sin a moral problem?
Our main problem isn’t how we were made, but what we’ve done with our free will. We chose to reject God’s will.
What are key aspects of sin?
Unbelief (not trusting God), pride (trying to be like God), disobedience (breaking God’s commands), rebellion (refusing His authority), and ingratitude (not being thankful).
What are the two dimensions of sin?
Sin has a vertical (spiritual) dimension—between us and God—and a horizontal (social) one—between us and others.
What is the result of sin: Condemnation?
We are judged guilty before God.
What is the result of sin: Corruption?
Sin spreads and damages all areas of life: physical, mental, spiritual, and social.
What is the result of sin: Alienation?
We become distant from God, others, nature, and even ourselves.
What is the result of sin: Slavery?
We are trapped and cannot free ourselves from sin on our own.
What is the result of sin: Total depravity?
Sin affects every part of us, even though we are not as bad as we could possibly be.
What is a simple summary of sin?
Sin is like a giant crack in humanity’s foundation. It breaks our connection to God and causes pain, conflict, and brokenness that only God can fix.
What is the Christian view of humanity?
Humans were created by God in His image, but sin entered the world and distorted that design. Still, God did not give up on humanity.
How did God respond to sin?
God began a plan of salvation to bring people back to Him. He still gives people gifts and responsibilities, showing He values them.
What is the reign of God?
God’s rule over the world was interrupted by sin but not destroyed. Salvation is how God restores that rule and renews relationship with people.
What is the next step in Christian theology?
To learn how salvation works and how it brings humanity back into God’s original plan.
