Q

Implications of Simpson & Hipp (2019)

A

1) Typologies can aid in explaining variance in the effectiveness of police programs, practices and strategies across space (Interventions that are effective in one region may not be in another); 2) If typologies are a reflection of agencies’ orientations, then interpreting them provides some indication of agencies’ self-perceived roles in their communities; 3) Typologies may offer insight into why some agencies exhibit lesser/greater contagion power than others

Q

Problems of the Philadelphia Policing Tactics Experiment?

A

POP officers were drawn from patrol and therefore still had to answer service calls, thus POP activity had to be conducted during irregular periods of downtime and resulted in relatively “shallow” analyses; FP used many veteran officers, who were less aggressive than less experienced officers, also may have been less interested in minor drug cases and even might have perceived FP as a sort of punishment, therefore being less invested

Gilligan’s theory of morality

A

Male officers tend to adopt ‘morality of justice’ (Moral justice = equality of treatment in the enforcement of rules), while women tend to adopt a morality of care (Moral/just behaviour = attempting to nurture & protect others and the relationships among them)
