…trouble than I could know. What if she has decided she’s done with a bad rabbit like me? I… I don’t know if I’m ready to hear that. I can’t go home…not yet.(Peter Rabbit Exits)
What’s got your tail-feathers in a twist today, Jemima Puddle-duck?
Oh, it’s just the rotten farmer’s wife, again.
What about her? I think she is lovely.
Well I don’t, Rebeccah! I want to lay my eggs and hatch them, but the farmer’s wife steals them away from me and cooks them for her family! I want my own family… well…other family besides you, sister-in-law. I want to raise my own little ducklings.
Speak for yourself, I’m glad she takes my eggs. That way, I don’t have to spend 28 days sitting on them.
Oh, cut that out you silly bird! We have enough ducklings on the farm as it is, we don’t need anymore. Be a good girl and take this corn in exchange.
Come on, Jemima! Let’s go to the puddle for a swim, or waddle around in the field. Something to get your mind off of things.
No, no. I will not have anymore of this farm. I will not tolerate the Farmer’s Wife stealing anymore of my babies! I must leave straight away and go somewhere else… somewhere else to lay my eggs and hatch them.
Now where on earth would that be?
I don’t know. Somewhere safe… somewhere like… the woods! Just over yonder there are woods! I could go there to lay my eggs.
Jemima, don’t you know? Every duck says the woods are a dangerous place to go. Even the farmer himself avoids the woods at all costs!
Oh please, anywhere that’s not near the farmer’s wife is safe for my eggs.
But what about you?
I’ll be fine! I’ll return in two month’s time, accompanied by all of the new little ones of the Puddle-duck family.
Good luck, Jemima. You’ll need it.
