Helps to soften rough, dry skin
May provide pain relief and reduce swelling
Reduces feelings of stress and overwhelm
Eases muscle tension and fatigue
Promotes better sleep

2 drops Geranium essential oil
2 drops Lemongrass essential oil
1 teaspoon Jojoba Oil (or desired carrier oil)

2. Armpit Detox Spray Ingredients: 1 tsp organic apple cider vinegar 1/4 cup of filtered water 1 tsp of Jojoba carrier oil 2 drops Tea Tree essential oil or another blend of your choice Spray bottle How To: Mix all the ingredients of your DIY deodorant in the spray bottle. Shake well and spray a thin layer over your underarms and leave on for 5-10 minutes. Wash off with a clean, warm, damp cloth. Shake well before each use.
Witch Hazel & Tea Tree Deodorant Spray
Witch hazel is a natural astringent: it removes excess moisture and can kill bacteria. Combined with antibacterial tea tree oil, this spray helps disinfect skin and reduce odor.
Ingredients: ½ cup witch hazel (alcohol-free), ½ cup distilled water, 10 drops tea tree essential oil, (optional: 5 drops lavender or peppermint oil)
Steps:
1. In a clean spray bottle, combine witch hazel and water.
2. Add the tea tree oil (and any other essential oils). Screw on cap and shake well to mix.
3. Label the bottle and let sit a few minutes to allow oils to dilute.
Usage Tips:
Shake before each use. Lightly mist underarms or other sweaty areas after showering; allow to air-dry. (Use within 2–4 weeks (no preservatives); refrigerate to extend freshness if desired.)
Apple Cider Vinegar & Citrus Body Spray
Dilute apple cider vinegar (ACV) provides acetic acid that kills odor-causing bacteria on skin. A touch of citrus (lemon or orange oil) adds a pleasant scent and extra antimicrobial action (citric acid also reduces bacteria). This spray is especially useful after exercise or in hot weather.
Ingredients:
¼ cup raw apple cider vinegar
¾ cup distilled water
10–15 drops essential oil (lemon, orange, or lavender)
Steps:
1. In a spray bottle, mix the apple cider vinegar and water.
2. Add your chosen essential oil(s) and shake well.
3. Label and let it sit briefly so all ingredients blend.
Usage Tips:
After cleansing, spritz underarms or body and let dry. The vinegar scent will dissipate as it dries, leaving a faint citrus fragrance.
Storage:
Store at room temperature for up to 2–3 weeks. To prolong shelf life, keep in a cool, dark place or refrigerate. Shake before use.
Vodka & Peppermint Spray
Pure vodka (100-proof or higher) is essentially water and ethanol, which kills bacteria and evaporates without residue. Mixed with distilled water and a few drops of peppermint (or any oil), it makes a quick-drying, odorless spray.
Ingredients:
½ cup vodka
½ cup distilled water
10 drops peppermint essential oil (or eucalyptus or lavender)
Steps:
1. Combine vodka and water in a spray bottle.
2. Add the essential oil and shake well.
3. Label the bottle.
Usage Tips:
Apply by spraying directly on body odor hotspots (underarms, feet, etc.) and let dry before dressing. Alcohol will feel cool and dry rapidly. This works similarly to rubbing alcohol but with a milder smell. Skin-friendly oils like peppermint add cooling relief.
Storage:
Ethanol acts as a preservative, so this can last 1–2 months at room temperature. Keep the bottle sealed between uses.
DEODORANT (Cream/Paste)
- coconut oil
- shea butter
- baking soda
- arrowroot
- cornstarch
- tea tree
- lavendar
Cream or paste deodorants combine oils/butters with powders. They are applied like a lotion or solid deodorant. Ingredients like coconut oil and shea butter moisturize and have mild antibacterial effects, while powders neutralize odor.
COCONUT OIL & BAKING SODA PASTE
This easy deodorant paste uses coconut oil (solid at room temperature) and baking soda. Coconut oil’s lauric acid gives it antibacterial properties, and baking soda neutralizes odors. Arrowroot is added to reduce stickiness.
Ingredients:
3 tbsp (about 45 ml) coconut oil (softened)
2 tbsp baking soda
2 tbsp arrowroot powder (or cornstarch)
5–10 drops essential oil (tea tree or lavender recommended)
Steps:
1. Gently warm coconut oil if needed so it’s soft (but not fully melted). In a bowl, mash or whisk it.
2. Stir in the baking soda and arrowroot until you form a smooth paste.
3. Mix in the essential oil.
4. Transfer the cream into a small jar.
Usage Tips:
Rub a pea-sized amount between clean fingers and apply to each underarm or body area. It should melt on contact with skin. Use sparingly; too much baking soda can irritate.
Storage:
Keep the jar tightly closed at room temperature. Coconut oil may liquefy if warm – that’s fine. Store in a cool, dark cabinet or fridge during hot weather. Use within 1–2 months for freshness.
SHEA BUTTER & ARROWROOT DEODORANT CREAM
For a baking soda–free option (great for sensitive skin), mix shea butter and arrowroot. Shea butter and coconut oil are gentle, and arrowroot powder keeps it dry. Add essential oils for scent and extra antibacterial action.
Ingredients:
3 tbsp shea butter
2 tbsp coconut oil
2 tbsp arrowroot powder
8 drops essential oil (lavender, lemon, or a blend)
Steps:
1. In a double boiler (or microwave in short bursts), melt shea butter and coconut oil together until just liquid.
2. Remove from heat and stir in arrowroot powder until a paste forms.
3. Mix in essential oil.
4. Let the mixture solidify (at room temp or in fridge) and then whip or mash for creaminess.
5. Transfer to a jar.
Usage Tips:
Apply a small amount to underarms or body areas as needed. This cream won’t go on as slick as conventional deodorant, but it helps balance pH and protect skin. It is very gentle (no baking soda).
Storage:
Store in an airtight container at cool room temperature. Use within 2–3 months. In warm conditions, keep refrigerated to maintain texture.
DEODORANT (Exfoliating Body Scrubs)
- coffee grounds
- salt
- sugar
- lemon
Exfoliating scrubs slough off dead skin cells and can remove odor-causing residues, while leaving a fresh scent. Ingredients like coffee grounds, salt, or sugar offer both exfoliation and odor control. Use these scrubs once or twice weekly (not on freshly shaved skin). Coffee grounds make a powerful body scrub because they are exfoliating and have natural odor-absorbing properties.
COFFEE GROUNDS & COCONUT OIL BODY SCRUB
Used coffee grounds are odor-absorbing and make an excellent body scrub. Mixed with coconut oil (a natural antibacterial or another oil, this scrub exfoliates and neutralizes smells. It’s great for shoulders, back, underarms, or legs.
Ingredients:
1 cup used coffee grounds (cooled)
1 cup coconut oil (melted),
(optional: ½ cup brown sugar or sea salt for more scrub)
Steps:
1. In a bowl, combine the coffee grounds and coconut oil. If using sugar or salt, stir that in too.
2. Mix until you have a thick, spreadable paste.
3. Store the scrub in a jar with lid.
Usage Tips:
In the shower, wet skin and scoop a small amount of scrub. Gently massage in circular motions over body or underarms to exfoliate. Focus on odorous areas. Rinse off thoroughly with soap and water. Coffee stimulates circulation and deodorizes.
Storage:
Keep in a covered jar. Because of the oil, this scrub can become oily or moldy; use within 1–2 weeks. Store at room temperature or in fridge if it liquefies.
SEA SALT & CITRUS BODY SCRUB
This invigorating scrub combines fine sea salt (or Epsom salt) with citrus juice/oil. The salt exfoliates and helps inhibit bacteria, while lemon’s citric acid kills germs. It’s especially good for scrubbing feet or body odor hotspots.
Ingredients:
½ cup fine sea salt
½ cup olive oil (or coconut oil)
2 tbsp fresh lemon juice (or 10 drops lemon essential oil)
Steps:
1. In a bowl, mix the sea salt and oil until you get a gritty paste.
2. Stir in the lemon juice (or lemon essential oil) until well combined.
3. Transfer to a jar and label.
Usage Tips:
Use this scrub on damp skin (avoid face). Gently massage into armpits, feet, or anywhere you want to freshen up. Lemon fights bacteria and odor. Rinse well and pat dry.
Storage:
Store in a glass jar. Because it contains citrus, use within 1–2 weeks. Keep refrigerated to prolong its life. Discard if the lemon smell fades or mold appears.
DEODORANT (Powder)
- Bergamot
- Coriander
- Mint
- Rosemary
- Sage
- Tea Tree
- Thyme
- Hazel
- Vinegar
- Baking Soda
- Cornstarch
- Arrowroot
Powder formulas (like talc-free “body powders”) absorb sweat and neutralize odor. Key ingredients include drying powders (baking soda and cornstarch/arrowroot) and optional odor neutralizers. When applied to skin, they create a barrier that keeps areas drier and less hospitable to bacteria.
BAKING SODA & ARROWROOT BODY POWDER
A simple powder made from baking soda and arrowroot (or cornstarch) is a classic deodorant. Baking soda neutralizes odors, while arrowroot absorbs moisture.
Ingredients:
¼ cup baking soda
¾ cup arrowroot powder (or cornstarch)
(optional: 10 drops essential oil like lavender or tea tree)
Steps:
1. In a mixing bowl, sift or whisk together the baking soda and arrowroot powder until evenly blended.
2. If using, mix in the essential oil drops thoroughly.
3. Transfer the powder to a clean, dry jar with a shaker lid or sprinkle top.
Usage Tips:
Lightly dust the powder onto clean, dry underarms or body areas prone to sweating.
Storage:
Keep in a sealed container at room temperature (powder stays good for months if kept dry). Avoid moisture contact. Label with date and ingredients.
KAOLIN CLAY & CORNSTARCH POWDER
This gentler powder uses kaolin clay (or bentonite clay) plus cornstarch or arrowroot. Kaolin clay absorbs oils and moisture and may limit odor-causing bacteria. It’s soothing and less irritating than baking soda.
Ingredients:
½ cup kaolin clay powder
½ cup cornstarch (or arrowroot)
(optional: 10 drops of a skin-safe essential oil like lavender or cedarwood)
Steps:
1. In a bowl, mix the kaolin clay and cornstarch until uniform.
2. Add essential oil if desired and stir well.
3. Transfer to a shaker bottle or jar for use.
Usage Tips:
Apply like baby powder: shake onto palm or sprinkle lightly on underarms/body and pat in. This is suitable for sensitive skin since it contains no baking soda.
Storage:
Store in a dry jar away from humidity. A glass jar with a sifter cap works well. Use within several months.

- 1 tablespoon marula oil
- 1 tablespoon rosehip oil
- 12 drops carrot seed essential oil

Instructions:
1. Mix well in a dark glass bottle.
2. Apply 2–3 drops to face (avoiding eyes) by pressing into damp skin.
3. Use this oil 3–4 times per week at night (or nightly if tolerated). (It seals in moisture and smooths fine lines. For combination skin, you may skip oil on oilier areas or use it only where dry (like cheeks). Remember, oils should be the last step (after cream), so they lock everything in.)

Mixing honey and turmeric together gives you anti-inflammatory benefits and skin-brightening properties. It’s also very easy to make:
- Combine one teaspoon of turmeric and one tablespoon of honey until it’s well-blended together
- Apply your mask to a clear, dry face and leave it on for about 15 to 20 minutes
- Rinse the mask off with warm water
- Finish your routine with a moisturizer
DIY HONEY FACE MASK
Honey is a near universal DIY face mask ingredient. Its natural antibacterial properties help it do wonders for acne-prone skin. Another effective acne-treatment ingredient is nutritional yeast, which is full of vitamin B that soothes your skin and prevents breakouts.
Here’s how to make a honey-yeast DIY face mask:
- Use two tea bags to brew a cup of chamomile tea and let it cool
- Meanwhile, mix together one tablespoon of honey and one teaspoon of nutritional yeast
- Start slowly adding the chamomile tea to create a thick paste that you’d be able to use as a face mask, but avoid making it too watery
- Apply the mixture on your face as a mask and keep on for about 20 minutes
- Rinse the mask off and moisturize your face
DIY HYDRATING FACE MASK WITH AVOCADO
When you feel like your skin has been dry for a while and you need a face mask recipe with some hydrating properties, look no further than adding avocado into the mix.
Avocados are full of omega-3 fatty acids that assist the moisturizing process. Some additional olive oil will help you seal the skin as well. Finish off with honey and yogurt for extra skin softness.
For the best hydrating mask:
- Mash one avocado
- Add two tablespoon of plain yogurt
- Add one tablespoon of olive oil
- Add one tablespoon of honey
- Mix everything well together
- Apply for 15 to 20 minutes
- Rinse well, especially around the hairline
DIY PEEL OFF FACE MASK (11/24/2023)
If you’re looking for some exfoliating purposes, akin to a scrub, yogurt is a great ingredient to use to achieve smooth and supple skin. Due to its lactic acid, yogurt makes an instant difference by lifting away old skin cells.
Let’s make a twist on the honey-turmeric face mask described above by adding yogurt to it. Honey adds elasticity to your skin and turmeric helps combat pigmentation:
- In a small bowl, add one tablespoon of plain yogurt
- Add one tablespoon of honey
- Add one tablespoon of turmeric
- Mix well together
- Apply and leave on for just about 10 minutes
