Recombinant Plasmids Flashcards

1
Q

Recombinant plasmids function

A

For a gene to be expressed it needs to be inserted into a living cell - such as a bacteria

  • A plasmid ( small piece of circular DNA that is naturally found in bacteria) can be used as a vector to insert a gene such as the human insulin gene into bacteria

PROCESS OF CREATING A RECOMBINANT

A

1) The DNA is extracted a from cell, cut with restriction enzymes to create sticky ends
