Reflexes Flashcards
(12 cards)
Upper motor neuron originates from?
The brain
Lower motor neuron function?
Signal comes out
2 types of synapses?
Excitatory and Inhibitatory
If there is damage at lesional part of the spine what gets affected?
The upper motor neuron and the lower motor neuron of the lesional part of the spinal cord would be affected, as well as the upper motor neuron of the intralesional would be affected since they connect and originate the same.
An upper motor neuron: affected and a lower motor neuron: unaffected results in what?
Hyperactive reflexes since the brain cannot inhibit reflexes anymore since the upper motor neuron helped in that case.
C4/C5 is what spinal nerve?
Biceps tendon reflex
C7/C8 is what spinal nerve?
Triceps tendon reflex
T8/T12 is what spinal nerve?
Abdominal reflex
L2 is what spinal nerve?
Cremastic reflex
L3/L4 is what spinal nerve?
Patellar reflex
S1 is what spinal nerve?
Achilles tendon reflex
Babinski sign
A neurological test where stroking the sole of the foot causes the big toe to extend upwards and the other toes to fan out. In infants, this is a normal reflex, but in older children and adults, it can indicate damage to the central nervous system.
