Reflexes Stimulus Flashcards
(36 cards)
Rooting
Stroke the corner of the mouth, upper lip and lower lip
Suck-Swallow
Place a finger or nipple inside the infants mouth
Moro
Rapidly drop the infant’s head backwards about 30 degrees.
Traction
Grasp infant’s forearms and pull to sit
Flexor Withdrawl
Pin prick or some other noxious stimulus to the ball of the foot.
Crossed Extension
Hold one leg down at the knee while applying firm pressure to the sole of that foot.
Plantar Grasp

Positive Support
Bring the infant downward allowing his feet to make contact with the support surface. Contact on the ball of the foot on the support surface
Spontaneous Stepping
Incline the infant forward
(ATNR) Asymmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex
Use a visual stimulus to encourage the infant to follow and turn his head 180 degrees
(can manually move the infants head)
(STNR) Symmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex
Head extension or head flexion
(TLR-S) Tonic Labyrinthine Supine
Supine position
(TLR-P) Tonic Labyrinthine Prone
Prone Position
Labyrinthine Head Righting Reaction
Slowly tilt (about 45 degrees) to the side, forward or backward -gravity is the stimulus
birth = complete head lag
2 mos = little lag
3-4 mos= no lag
6 mos= assisting in the pull to sit
Optical Head Righting Reaction
Slowly tilt (about 45 degrees) to the side, forward or backward -stimulus is vision
birth = complete head lag
2 mos = little lag
3-4 mos= no lag
6 mos= assisting in the pull to sit
Neck Righting
Fully turn the infants head to one side
Body Righting
Flex one hip and knee toward the chest, adduct, rotate the pelvis and hold briefly
Landau
Hold the infant in horizontal prone suspension
Protective Reaction UE-Forward (Forward Parachute)
Suddenly tip the infant forward toward the supporting surface
Protective Reaction UE-Sidewards (Sidewards Parachute)
Suddenly tip the infant off balance to the side while in the sitting position
Protective Reaction UE - Backwards (Backwards Parachute)
Suddenly tip the infant off balance to the side while in the sitting position.
