Rebranding
the marketing aspect of regeneration designed to attract businesses, residents and visitors by changing a placeβs image
Reinventor cities
have changed their economic base away from low skilled, secondary employment in factories to high skilled, high wage IT and digital media employment
Replicator cities
replaced low skilled, secondary employment in factories to low skilled, tertiary employment e.g call centres, retail etc.
Characteristics
the physical and human aspects which distinguish places from each other
Functions
the roles a place plays for its community and surroundings, large places can often have national or international functions
Studentification
when a place experiences an influx of students within privately rented accommodation in a particular neighbourhood,contradictory social, cultural and physical changes may occur
Regeneration
long term upgrading of existing places or more drastic renewal schemes for e.g urban/rural areas
Gentrification
When a poor area experiences an influx of middle class/wealthy people who renovate/rebuild homes/businesses and which often results in an increase in property value and displacement of earlier, usually poorer residents
Diversification
Regeneration strategy where farms/rural businesses expand the ways in which they make money by moving away from traditional farming activities
Pump priming
When the government gets involved and allocates funds for projects, expecting outside investment to help β basically starting up the funding for a project they think will be successful and helpful to the national economy.
Local Enterprise Zone (LEZ)
Areas that are designed to stimulate economic activity growth by rewarding businesses that establish and expand in the zone β discount business rates up to 100%, enhancing capital allowance for machinery purchases, simplified planning regulations etc.
