Offence
The team with the ball that is trying to score.
Defence
The team without the ball that is trying to prevent the offence from scoring
Forward Pass
A pass thrown from behind the line of scrimmage to a player who is ahead of the person throwing the ball
Lateral
A sideways or backward pass/pitch which may be made anywhere on the field
Line of Scrimmage (L.O.S.)
The line from where the ball is snapped and where the defensive and offensive teams line up on or behind
Regulation Team
Consists of eleven players
Regulation Game
In high school each quarter is twelve minutes in length. Teams change ends of the field after the first and third quarter
Backs
Players on the team who ordinarily carry or pass the ball on offence. They are lined up behind the linemen
Block
Action of the offence in which they use their bodies to ward off defensive players from the ball carrier
Clipping
Action by the player in which he throws his body or uses his hands across the back of a defensive players. (Blocking a defensive player in the back)
Offside
When a player is ahead of the ball before it has been snapped
