1
Q

Blood pressure is?

A

The force exerted by blood on the inner walls of blood vessels

2
Q

3 components that influence blood pressure?

A

Heart activity
Blood volume
Blood vessels

3
Q

Increase in BP is caused by?

A

Increased HR
Vasoconstriction of arterioles ( small arteries )
Increase in blood volume

4
Q

Decrease in BP is caused by?

A

Decreased HR
Vasodilation of arterioles
Decrease in blood volume

5
Q

What is cardiac output?

A

Total volume of blood pumped out of the ventricle during 1 minute

6
Q

The parasympathetic activity does what to the HR?

A

Slows it down (paro / paralysed )

7
Q

The sympathetic activity does what to the HR?

A

Speeds up ( sym / speed )

8
Q

What does the vasomotor centre regulate?

A

Diameter of arterioles ( thickness )

9
Q

Feedback loop of blood pressure (homeostasis)?

A

Receptors - baroreceptors ( detects change in artery walls due to BP changes )
Controller - medulla ( signals sent to both centres )
Effector - vasomotor tone ( causes contraction of smooth muscles in arterioles )

10
Q

If blood pressure rises, what would result in a drop in blood pressure?

A

Inhibition of the sympathetic nervous system and excitation of the parasympathetic nervous system

11
Q

What would increase arterial BP?

A

Contraction of smooth muscle in arterioles
