War
A period of time where there is fighting between two nations
Civil war
A war where both sides belong to the same country
Nuclear war
a war where nuclear weapons are used
Ideological war
A war where people are fighting over an idea or a belief
Just war
A war that is right
Just war Theory
A set of rules which help people to work out whether a war would be just or wrong
Jus ad bellum
The first part of the Just war Theory: contrains rules about when to start a war
jus in bello
the second part of the just war theory: it contains the rules about how to act during the war
Jus post bellum
The third part of the theory: containing rules about when to end a war and how to act after
Holy war
A war that is fought for religious reasons or a war that is fought because people think it is what God wants
The crusades
A group of wars in the 1200s where Christians fought against Muslims to capture Jerusalem
Terrorism
The use of violence to achieve a political item
Pacifism
The belief that violence is wrong
Absolute pacifism
The belief that violence is always wrong, no matter what the circumstances
conditional pacifism
the belief that violence is wrong, except in extreme circumstances when it is the last resort
Forgiveness
When you pardon someone for something they have done wrong
reconciliation
when you fix the relationship that was hurt when someone did something wrong
Sacrament of reconciliation
The catholic practice of confessing your sins to God through the priest, and being forgiven
justice
when things are fair
social injustice
when a society is not fair for everyone
Liberation theology
The belief that Christians should work to solve social injustice, and to help people in poverty or oppression
