# Origins and their Impact on the Community (founders and leaders) Give at least 1 FOR for each of the theories for the resurrection of Jesus. Gospel account hallucination myth-makers theory conspiracy Swoon theory
**Gospel account** -the Gospels tell of women being the first to find the tomb -Christianity spread rapidly based on the belief in the resurrection suggesting early followers were convinced it happened. **Hallucination** -the disciples were in deep shock after the death of their master -science has shown that people in shock can often be prone to paranoia and halucinations. -the Gospel say that Jesus appeared inside a locked room-how did he get in? **Myth-makers theory** -they only meant it in the sense of 'he lives om through his message'. -they only wanted to show that they were still following his cause, but not that he'd literally risen. **Conspiracy** -not many would have seen Jesus in person, so they get someone to pretend they were the risen Jesus. -if the disciples lied about the resurrection, they could have used it to start a new religious movement. **Swoon theory** -the theory doesn't require a miracle, making it easier to believe -if Jesus didn't die, he could have left the tomb on his own, which would explain why it was found empty.
51
# Origins and their Impact on the Community (founders and leaders) Give at least 1 AGAINST for each of the theories for the resurrection of Jesus. Gospel account hallucination myth-makers theory conspiracy Swoon theory
**Gospel account** -so few accounts outside the Bible -why don't people rise from the dead now? **Hallucination** -we know from the Bible that over 500 people saw Jesus after his resurrection. -it's hard to explain how brief hallucinations could spark a movement that lasted for centuries. **Myth-makers theory** -early Christians clearly believed Jesus physically rose from the dead, not just in a metaphorical sense. -the disciples were willing to die for their belief in the resurrection, which seems unlikely if they only meant it in a symbolic way. **Conspiracy** -the tomb was guarded by a group of 8 Roman soldiers -most of the disciples died violent deaths due to their faith, would they have done so for a lie? **Swoon theory** -Jesus lost a lot of blood, so how would he have moved the stone? -Roman crucifixions were brutal, and Jesus was severely injured, making survival highly unlikely.
