How did the believes causes and treatments change from medieval medicine
Most thing such as the 4 humours theory, miasma and herbal remedies were still believed in however now they would isolate sick people during the plague and quacks sold there own HR’s. More rich people also opted for physicians
What was the change in approach to medicine during this time
The natural and scientific method began where people would question past ideas and create new theories
What did Edward Jenner do
He created the smallpox vaccine by using pus from a cow infected with cowpox.
What were the short term impacts of Edward Jenner’s smallpox vaccine
Limited as there was a lot of opposition from people. For example some religious people who thought it was wrong to put the pus of a ‘lower being’ in their body.
How was knowledge of anatomy spread during renaissance times
Through books and more accurate depictions of the human body in more detail. There was more dissection but it was not yet widespread
What was the invention that allowed ideas and books to be spread around Europe
The printing press 1348
How far was knowledge of contagion/germs developed in the renaissance period
Knowledge of contagious nature of disease was starting to be recognised however nobody had any explanation as to why as the germ theory had not been yet developed
What were the long term impacts of the smallpox vaccination
When the vaccination became mandatory smallpox was eradicated and the idea of vaccination is still used to this day
