Q

How does tolvaptan work to slow disease progression in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease?

A
  • Selective & competitive vasopressin 2 (V2) antagonist
  • Binds to the V2 receptors in the renal collecting ducts to reduce cell proliferation, cyst formation and fluid excretion
  • This reduces kidney growth & protects renal function
