Renal physiology Flashcards

1
Q

Equation for renal plasma flow (and how do you convert this to RBF?)

A

Clearance PAH = Urine PAH x Urine flow / Plasma PAH
RBF = RPF / 1-HCT

2
Q

Why is PAH used to estimate RBF

A

1) High extraction ratio - almost completely removed by the kidneys via filtration and secretion
2) Not metabolised or excreted by any other organ - the AV concentration difference is equal to renal arteriolar concentration
