Q

Describe why they were repealed

A
  • British govt was concerned about the events in the colonies
  • duties had caused problems and failed to raise significant financial revenue
  • they were also damaging British exports to the colonies
  • colonists responded to the taxes with the boycotts of British goods, which significantly reduced trade between Britain and America.
  • politically, they fuelled growing resentment and resistance in colonies- e.g. Boston massacre and gave cause to the sons of liberty (so were exacerbating political unrest)
