Describe why they were repealed
A
- British govt was concerned about the events in the colonies
- duties had caused problems and failed to raise significant financial revenue
- they were also damaging British exports to the colonies
- colonists responded to the taxes with the boycotts of British goods, which significantly reduced trade between Britain and America.
- politically, they fuelled growing resentment and resistance in colonies- e.g. Boston massacre and gave cause to the sons of liberty (so were exacerbating political unrest)

March 1770- north secured the repeal of all duties except for tea- seen to be a mark of parliamentary sovereignty, which divided conservative merchants
