A

Explaining the impact a crime has had on a victim or victims family and gives closure to the victim and reintegrates offender

Labeling theory - favors restorative of justice
- Restorative of justice reintegrates offenders as it shows genuine remorse and prevents secondary deviance

Functionalist - Durkheim
- Durkheim argues ‘restorative of justice’ is essential for smooth functioning society

What criticisms are there of reparations?

A
  1. May not work for all offenses (rape victims don’t see restorative of justice as straight forward and won’t forgive the rapist and it is impossible for homicide)
  2. Some regard it as too soft and let offenders off
