Pushing the boundaries of representations.
Why can sci fi genre texts get past content censors?
By writers and producers saying the representations and discourses take place in a fictional universe, and are therefore not real.

Heteronormative gender binaries are erased (yorkies fiance and kelly rejecting wes) or acknowledged as part of a more complex gender identity (Kelly’s Husband).
How is the normalisation of Kelly’s bisexuality an important step foward?
Bisexuality is marginalised even within the LGBTQ community.
How are the themes of the afterlife represented?
Utopian ‘Heaven’ for Kelly and Yorkie.

Purgatory as characters are in a state between life and death.

An aspirational life for the residents and those considering passing over.

Young and old. It offers stereotypical reps of youth and elderly.

Yorkie is queer, old and disabled. These parts of her identity impact how she represents herself in the VR town.
