What is PID?
bacterial infection of cervix, uterus, fallopian tube, ovaries, and supporting structures

Signs and Symptoms of PID
- appears around menstruation
- Constant lower abdo and pelvic pain
- low grade fever
- abnormal vaginal discharge with odour
- pain during sex
Define Ovarian Cyst
A thin fluid filled sac that is attached onto the ovarian surface
What would the OPQRST be for a ruptured Ovarian Cyst?
O - Sudden - may occur spontaneously, after exercise, intercourse or trauma
P - Any palpation or movement
Q - Sharp, pinpoint localized to or left side (may develop peritonitis)
R - None (typically)
S - 10/10
T - Constant
Define Dysmenorrhea
- painful menstruation which is tpically associated with abdominal cramping
Signs and Symptoms of Dysmenorrhea
- HA, lightheadedness, dizziness
- N/V/D
- Back Pain
What is the treatment a PCP can do for a pt with Dysmenorrhea?
- Symptom Management
- Physcian evaluation to rule out other illness
Define Endometritis
Inflammation of uterine lining
- usually infection
- often after childbirth or abortion due to retained placental tissue
Where does Endometritis affect?
uterus and fallopian tubes
If endometritis is left untreated, what may occur?
sterility or sepsis
Signs and Symptoms of Endometritits
- fever
- purulent vaginal discharge
- lower abdo pain
What is the treatment for Endometritis
Supportive Care, removal tissue, antibiotics
Define Endometriosis
- Ectopic Growth of endometrial tissue
- fragments of endometrium migrate into peritoneum, attach and form cystic structures

Severe Menstrual pain
What is the treatment for Endometriosis
- pain management
- hormone therapy
- surgery
Define Vaginitis
- a general term given for various conditions that cause inflammation of the vagina

- Bacteria
- yeast
- low estrogen levels
Signs and Symptoms of Vaginitis
- Itching
- Burning
- Pain
- Discharge
- Odour

What are some causes of non menstrual vaginal bleeding?
- Pregnancy (Spontaneous abortion, placental disorders, onset of labour)
- Hormone Imbalance (menopause)
- Intercourse
- Cancers, Tumours, Lesions
- Trauma (straddle injuries, sexual assault, foreign body objects)
What are the goals of prehospital care when it comes to vaginal bleeding?
- identify conditions that need aggressive therapy
- Identify need for rapid transport
Define Urethritis
general term for inflammation of the urethra, commonly caused by bacteria which enters the urethra from the skin around the urethral opening
- often caused by STDs
