1. Place 10 drops of solution into a test tube
2. Add sodium hydroxide solution, shaking gently, dding dropwise until in excess
3. Do not discard this mixture

1. Half fill a 250cm^3 beaker with freshly boiled water
2. Allow test tubes from 1a to stand in the mixture for about 10 minutes

1. Place about 10 drops of sodium carbonate solution into a test tube
2. Add about 10 drops of silver nitrate solution and shake gently
3. Allow the test tubes to stand for about 10 minutes

2. Add ammonia solution into the test tube, shaking gently and adding drop wise until in excess
