Q

What is inter reliability

A

Having multiple researchers observing behaviour and coding it
Every1 must agree
Bad > all may not agree
Good> all agree

16
Q

Non ppts

A

Researcher doesn’t take part

17
Q

Strength of natural

A

Increase ecological validity
More likely to act natural

Gives researchers insight into new cultures

18
Q

Weakness of natural

A

More likely to be covert
Has ethical issues as researchers can’t get consent

Natural environment = difficult to replicate due to many variables

19
Q

Strength for structured

A

In a controlled environment therefore researchers can focus on specific behaviours ie by manipulating toy

20
Q

Weakness of structural

A

Low ecological validity
May no longer be a natural environment and ppts may not act natural

Ppts may gain deman characteristics which would make them act unnatural because they are being watched

21
Q

Strength and weakness of overt

A

No ethical issues b3cause we can gain informed consent from each ppt
Easier to see everything because research doesn’t have to be hidden 😀

Ppts may gain demand characteristics and change behaviour because they know they are being watched 🫤

22
Q

Strength and weakness for covert

A

Ppts behave more naturally as they are not aware they arr being observed - no demand characteristics

Raises ethical issues due to the lack of informed consent

23
Q

Strength of ppts

A

Can get special insights into behaviour from the inside and see things in greater detail than an outsider

24
Q

Weakness of ppts

A

Decrease Objectivity
Observer may get bias and not give full detail as they may gain emotional attachments to said subjects

More difficult to take notes and leading to memory changing and of its overt ppts will change behaviour

25
Strength and weakness of non ppts
Increases Objectivity Research wouldn't have any emotional ties to the ppts and would make them have less biased observations observer may misinterpret communications within the group as they’re outsider reduces validity of observations
26
Content analysis
Qualitative ( via event sampling) > quantitative via tally > make themes First choose artifacts Make observations based codes man and tally When you see the or behaviour code
27
Strenght of content analysis
Can repeat the process with someone else and test for reliability of data analysis Must apply to question
28
Weakness for content analysis
Record date by tally predicted but can't explain why behaviours are displayed Must apply
29
All the things to say about animals
How animals are used in research Differences between animals and human Strength and weakness of animal research
30
How are animals used in research
Studying genes: studying the effect of genes in development of abnormalities Studying brain structures: seeing effects of damaged brain parts on behaviour
31
How are animals different from humans
Animals humans Primarily driven driven by by instinct instinct but use Reasoning Research Method ; Drugs questionnaires More complex Thought, culture Into behaviour Smaller bigger Cortical brain Cortical areas Areas
32
Strength and weakness the use of animals in research into human behaviour
Strength Highly controllable and predictable Apply with an example Weakness Humans have high complexities and social issues that influence behaviour Animals wouldn't understand
33
Evaluate the use of animals in research Evaluate the ethical concerns of animal research
