(18 cards)
Define Experimental
-
Define Non-Experimental
- a study where a researcher can’t control, manipulate or alter the subject
Define Sample
- set of subjects drawn from a particular population
Define Population
- the larger group of participants from which a sample is drawn
What are the Ethics in Psychological Research
- informed consent
- confidentiality
- voluntary participation and withdrawal rights
- deception in research
Define Informed Consent
- researchers must obtain written, informed permission from each participant
Define Confidentiality
- individuals right to privacy
Define voluntary participation and withdrawal rights
- participants have the right to withdraw at any given time
Define deception in research
- given information before an experiment
Define independent and dependent variables
Independent:
- what’s being changed
Dependent:
- what’s being measured
Define Operational Hypothesis
- general statement about the interaction between the independent and dependent variables
Define Reliability
- refers to the consistency of the measure across time
Define Validity
- quality of the extent to which what you want to measure is actually being measured
- accuracy
What are the guidelines for writing a formal report on research?
- title
- abstract
- introduction
- method
- results
- discussion
- references
- appendices (if any)
How do you find the mean?
Add all the results and divide by the amount
How do you find the mode?
Most occurring number
How do you find the median?
Middle number:
- if there’s more than one middle number find the middle value by adding them together and dividing by 2.
What is the difference between Qualitative and Quantitive data?
Qualitative data is more word and situation related whereas quantitative data is to do with numbers and amounts.
