16
Q

How to obtain materials for the haber process

A

Nitrogen is extracted from the air
Hydrogen is produced by reacting methane and steam

17
Q

What does phosphoric rock and nitric acid produce

A

Phosphoric acid and calcium nitrate

18
Q

What has to happen to phosphoric acid before it’s added to plants

A

Neutralised with ammonia to produce ammonium phosphate

19
Q

What does phosphoric rock and Sulfuric acid make

A

Calcium phosphate and calcium sulfate aka single superphosphate

20
Q

What is triple superphosphate

A

Phosphate rock with phosphoric acid

21
Q

What is the difference between reacting ammonia and nitric acid in school vs industry

A

Dilute solutions are used which are more safe in schools, only a small amount of product is produced. In industry the ammonia is a gas and the nitric acid is concentrated

22
Q

Describe the steps of waste water treatment

A

Screening, sedimentation to produce effluent and sludge. Sludge is digested by anaerobic bacteria. Air is bubbled through the effluent to allow aerobic bacteria to multiply and digest harmful organic material

23
Q

How are the products from anaerobic sludge treatment used

A

Biogas produced can be burned for fuel and the leftover sludge is used for fertiliser
