Respiratory system Flashcards
(15 cards)
Diaphgram
A muscle that helps push CO2 out of the lungs when it expands and moves upwards and contracts and moves downwards to take in O2
Respiration Values
Respirations per minute: 12-20
Cellular level exchanges
The CO2 and O2 are exchanged through the capillary network (In the Alveoli)
Apnea
A period of no respirations and Sleep Apnea is usually treated using an oxygen mask for positive air pressure
Hypoxemia + ways to asses
It is where there is an insufficient amount of oxygen in the blood
Asses using the capillary refill or pulse-ox
CO2 in Respirations
The CO2 is forced out of the lungs by the Diaphram, through the capillary system and alveoli and back the way it came
O2 in respirations
The O2 I taken in from the outside and the Diaphram contracts to release the pressure to go into the lungs
Capillary refill Normal value
Capillary refill is you push on the finger nail and count how many seconds it takes to go back to pink
2-3 seconds is normal
O2 saturation and values
95%-100%
Devices used for measurement of O2
Pulse-ox, nasal cannula (Nose tube), Oxygen Mask, Catheter, Oxygen tent, Oxygen Concentrator (Purifies the air in the room), Liquid Oxgyen ( More concentrated oxygen)
Internal and External respiration
Internal: An exchange for glasses between the blood and cells
External: O2 and CO2 are exhcanged between the lungs and blood
Ventilation
When a person cannot breath on their own so they get a machine to breath for them
Inhalation
The diaphgram contracts and moves down to take in air
Exhalation
The diaphragm expands and moves up to expell carbon dioxide
Hypoxemia S/S
cheyane-stokes breath, Cyonotic Skin, Dusky/greyish skin, SOB, Irregular respirations, wheezing/gasping, and Tachycardia
