response time Flashcards
what is reaction time
the time taken from the onset of the stimulus to the onset of the response
what are the two types of reaction time and examples
simple reaction time - when there is one specific responce to one stimulus
this choice should produce a fast reaction and responce as the athlete only has one thing to think about - swimmer after the start whistle has gone
choice reaction time - when the performer has to choose from numerous stimuli
the responce is much slower, it can also be when the player has to choose multiple responces once the correct stimulus has been chosen - in football when multiple teammates call for the ball and there are several types of pass to be used
what is movement time
it is the time taken to complete the task after information processing has taken place
the time from the start to the completion of the action
what is the responce time
the total time it takes from the onset of the stimulus to the completion of the action
response time = reaction time + movement time
