constructivism learning theory Flashcards
what does vygotsky suggest in the constructivism learning theory
interaction with others plays a vital role in our learning, this is known as social development
we learn skills from people around us with whom we interact (coaches, teachers, players)
this is called inter-psychological learning
who are more knoledgeable others
normally a coach or teacher, someone with a greater understanding of the task than you do
domonstrate values and actions such as:
high levels of effort
following a healthy lifestyle
clear communication
what is inter-psychological learning
learning from others externally through:
1. advice
2. feedback
3. tactical knowledge
what happens after inter-psychological learning has occured
the learner will use cognitive aspects to internally analyse, think about and construct actions based on what they have learnt externally
this is called intra-psychological learning
what is the zone of proximal development
an assessment that learners will use in order to see what they need to do next to learn the skill
performers will use three levels of performance to assess how to improve
- what can i do alone
- what can i do with help
- what can i not do yet
limitations of social learning (constructivism)
coaches should ensure that performers are provided with a range of experience in their zone of proximal development, so they remain motivated (not good for cognitive performers)
learning is dependent on the performance of more knowledgable others
learning also depends on the ability of the performer to make progress - progress could be very slow, could have negative impact on confidence and motivation - learning plateau
