Criteria: release or threatened release of harmful materials, in moderate amounts (greater than 55 gallons, less than 1000 gallons, multiple containers, boxes, or bags), that may be immediately dangerous to life or health:
A: unknown or not identifiable, substance in limited amounts (drums, tanks less than 55 gallons, boxes, bags.)
B: chemical threat (anthrax, botulism, etc.)

B: large quantity of substance (tanker, rail, car, etc.)
C: evacuation is required
D: pesticide drift
E: high hazard (gases, toxic)

a. Reported pin-ins
b. Involving a semi-truck or other heavy equipment
c. Reported overturned or rollover vehicle
d. Where accident involves fire
e. Reported head-on collision
f. Multiple vehicles (3 or more)
g. Over the side
h. Multiple patients
i. Incident requiring air ambulance to auto launch
j. Elevator entrapment
k. Vehicle into structure

VG – Vegetation Fire
(overview)
There are seven designated responses to vegetation fires. The different responses are determined by geography and weather.
Fire Weather will be reported in the morning each day as either:
**Normal – Typical seasonal weather pattern outside of Fire Season
**High – Fire Season or increased weather indices
**Red Flag – Extreme fire weather indices
**Lightning Plan – Increased lightning activity
The county has been divided into six geography zones for fire weather (see Fire Weather Zone map):
**Temblor – Temblor Mountains along western edge of county
**Valley – The San Joaquin Valley floor
**Mountain 1 – Southern Sierra Nevada Mountains and Tehachapi Mountains within Battalion 1
**Mountain 5 – Southern Tehachapi Mountains and San Emigdio Mountains within Battalion 5
**Mountain 7 – Sierra Nevada Mountains within Battalion 7
**Desert – The High Desert from Ridgecrest to Rosemond
Vegetation A (Urban):
Criteria &
What resources are dispatched?
A minimal response for typical small lot fires within urban areas. This designation would typically not change due to any weather-related influence.
- Any designated urban quadrant (ESZ) other than those in Bakersfield City
- Any quadrant when in Lightning Plan
Resources:
o 1-Engine (T2 or T3)
o 2-Engines (T6 or T3)
o BC notification

Vegetation B (Metro):

What resources are dispatched?
Response to urban areas of the City of Bakersfield within BFD’s response areas.
- Wildland response during all weather patterns for BFD’s urban response areas.
Resources:
o 1-BC (notification)
o 1-Engine (T1 or T2)
o 1 Engine (T6 or T3)

Vegetation C (Rio Bravo):
Criteria &
What resources are dispatched?
Response for BFD Station 10’s interface areas during “High” weather patterns.
- Wildland response during “high” weather pattern for all BFD Station 10’s non-urban area.
Resources:
o 1-BC
o 3-Engines (T1 or T2)
o 2-Engines (T6 or T3)

Vegetation D (Normal):

What resources are dispatched?
Standard non-fire season wildland response.
- Wildland response during “normal” weather pattern in all zones other than “urban quadrants”.
- Wildland response during “high” weather pattern in the Valley and Desert Zones.

Vegetation E (Seasonal):

What resources are dispatched?
Standard fire season response.
- Wildland response during “high” weather pattern in all LRA other than “urban”. Includes the majority of
the Valley Zone.
- Wildland response during “high” weather pattern for all of the “Temblor Zone” including SRA.
- Wildland response during “Red Flag” weather pattern for Desert Zone.
