restorative Flashcards
what is a facebow used for
used to record position of maxilla relative to terminal hinge axis of mandible
can then mount casts on semi or fully adjustable articulator
what cases may a facebow be used for
bridge work
toothwear
complex crown cases
describe the process of a facebow registration
- soften wax and place on bite fork, seat against patients upper arch with midlines matching and locating notches facing upwards
- on RHS mark anterior reference point
- assemble ear bows and transfer jig , adjust height so pointer at reference point and bow parallel to intra pupillary line
bite fork and transfer jig sent to lab as one unit
anterior reference point for facebow registration
43mm above UR2 distal incisal edge
how much labial reduction in veneer prep
0.5mm in 3 planes
how much incisal reduction in veneer prep
1mm
finishing margin for veneer prep
chamfer
discusss process of veneer prep
2 putty indices - one for temp construction, one for reduction template
reduce incisal level by 1mm
reduce labial by 0.5mm in 3 planes
tidy chamfer margins
(consider depth grooves)
how long to wait before polishing an amalgam restoration
at least 24 hours
principles of cavity design
1 - remove carious enamel till extent of lesion at ACJ visible
2 - smooth enamel margins
3. progressively remove carious dentine - periphery first then circumferentially deeper
4. outline form modification - enamel finishing, material requirements
5. smooth internal line angles
how long to etch and bond
etch - 20s enamel, 10s dentine
bond - 5s air dry 30s light cure
