What are the main aims of restorative justice?
Offender to accept responsibility, demonstrate guilt, develop empathy, victim to explain impact, understand offender, ask questions
What is restorative justice?
A face to face encounter or video to allow offenders to be rehabilitated through reconciliation with victim
What does the process offer to victims and offenders?
Atonement to offenders and empowerment to victims
How is it done?

What is a strength of using restorative justice?
Sherman and strang- reviewed 20 face to face meetings, all showed reduced reoffending, more effective than prisons (more than 20%)
UK restorative council reports 85% satisfaction rate from victims
promotes offender accountability as they develop and understanding
What is a weakness of using restorative justice?
May not be reviewed as appropriate modification for all criminal behaviours, In cause of hi trauma for victims, may cause the victim to re live what happened
What is an ethical strength?
Allows both offender and victim to have a voice
