Result 3 high human cost
South Korea: 200,000 soldiers killed and 400000 wounded. 100000 civilians killed. 100,000 Koreans executed for disloyalty months after. Agriculture destroyed.
North Korea: 400,000 s killed and 1,500,000 soldiers wounded. 600,000 civilians killed. Agriculture destroyed, 100,000 executed for disloyalty months after.
USA: 40,000 s killed and 100,000 wounded. Cost 30 billion. Americans angered as they’d died fighting a political ideology. Many others took pride in them liberation South Korea.
Extra result: UN strengthens
League of Nations had failed but UN had succeeded. In July 1950 sixteen countries signed Security Councik Resolution 84 and worked together to force North Korea out of South Korea. UN showed a willingness to act and showed it could not be ignored.
What was the main result?
Increased tensions because both USA and China were keen to interfere with Vietnam.
High human cost was shocking but mostly affected Korea.
Success for containment was resounding but mostly only confined to Korea.
