Reversible reactions Flashcards

1
Q

When is equilibrium reached?

A

Equilbrium is only reached if the reversible reaction takes place in a closed system. a closed system just means that none of the reactants or prodcucts can escape and nothing can get in

Q

What happens if the position of equilibrium is on the right

A

The concentration of prodcuts is greater than that of the reactants and vice versa

When a reaction is at equilbrium it doesnt mean the amounts of reactant and prodcuts are equal

Q

What does the position of equilibrium depend on

A
  • The temperature
  • The pressure
  • The concentrationof the reactants and products

Q

What happens as the reactants in a reverisble reaction react

as more prod

A

Their concentrations fall so the forward reaction will slow down.
But as more products are made their concentrations rise
Causing the backward solution to speed up

Q

What happens after more products are made in a reversible reaction?

same rate

A

the forward rection will be going at the same exact rate as the backward one;equilbrium

Q

What is a reversible reaction

A

Occurs when the products of a reaction can react backwards to produce the original reactant

Q

when is dynamic equilibrium reached

A

In a closed system, when the forward and reverse reactions occur at the same rate and the concentrations of reactants and products remain constant

Q

Describe Le Chatelier’s principe

A

If a system is at equilibrium and a change is made to any of the conditions, then the system responds to counteract change and restore the equilibrium
