REVERSIBLE REACTIONS + EQUILIBRIUM Flashcards
(5 cards)
What is a REVERSIBLE REACTION?
A reaction in which the products can react together to re-form the reactants- represented by two opposing arrows
What is EQUILIBRIUM
When the rate of the forward reaction equals the rate of the reverse reaction
INCREASING temperature
Increasing the temperature will shift the POE to the LEFT/RIGHT
-when temperature increases, the POE always shifts in the ENDOTHERMIC direction
INCREASING pressure
Increasing pressure will shift the POE to the LEFT/RIGHT
-as the POE will shift to the side that has fewer moles of gas
Increasing CATALYSTS
Using a catalyst increases the rate of reaction
-it speeds up the rate of both the forward and reverse reactions
-it does not affect the position of equilibrium
