revision for sac 1 Flashcards
(15 cards)
- A suitable pre-participation screening method prior to undertaking physical activity
Par-q and you test. (best you can use)
Physiological, and perspective considerations you should take into account before making/doing a physical activity plan. (make sure it’s safe)
- Be able to describe the advantages and disadvantages of the different Assessment Tools
recall surveys, diaries, pedometers, direct observation, digital tools, wearable devices
diaries
(subjective) provides information about and individuals activity e.g how often
Advantages: can be used to record info whenever its desirable, low cost
Disadvantages: might become a burden, respondents become reactive
recall surveys
subjective) ask an individual to recall their levels of physical activity or sedentary behaviour over a given time frame
Advantages: cost effective, easy to administer and complete
Disadvantages: social desirability bias- exaggerates their physical activity levels
pedometers
Pedometers-number of steps a person takes in a day
Advantages: cheap, easy to use
Disadvantages: does not record sedentary behaviour levels
direct observation
collects data that measure a person’s physical activity levels by trained observer
Advantages: useful to assess the activity levels of children
Disadvantages: time consuming and expensive
digital tools
encompass a wide range of devices using application to track physical activity behaviour (actual device)
Advantages: capacity to measure sedentary behaviour and physical activity levels
Disadvantages: can be expensive, may find it challenging to use
wearable devices
wearable devices- measure a whole range of dimensions
Advantages: provide real time data, measure physical activity
Disadvantages: expensive and reactive
- Know the National Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviour Guidelines for your age-group
Children and young people to should do at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity every day and at least 3 days per week children and toing people should incorporate 3 sessions of strengthening exercise.
- Sociocultural Barriers and Enablers to physical activity ( enablers)
Role models (active family members modelling physical activity,) resources (provide access to sports equipment and coaching), encouragement, shared activities (inclusion all together)
These are important as children are more likely to adopt physical activity behaviours by their family, resources influence the ability of children to participate in physical activity, boosts motivation, provide direct exposure to physical activity.
disadvantages (sociocultural)
Lack of role model, limited resources, absence of encouragement, lack of shared activities.

imprtance of recording
It is important to record and monitor physical activity levels throughout the implementation of the plan to be able to accurately evaluate the effectiveness of the plan. By the participant recording primary data such as psychological reflections, such as what activities they enjoyed, information can be gained around what is working well and what changes need to be made in the future.
