Define Fine motor skills.
Fine motor skills are the coordination and control of the movement of the small muscles in the fingers and hands
What skills support fine motor skills.
Gripping, manipulation, hand-eye coordination.
What activities support fine motor skills.
Gripping - Holding a spoon, a rattle.
Manipulation - Building with blocks, playing an instrument.
Hand-eye coordination - Writing, sewing or completing jigsaw puzzles.
Define social learning theory.
Social learning theory is the theory that suggests the way children behave is an interaction between personal and environmental factors.
What are piaget’s cognitive stages of development?
Sensorimotor - Birth 18-24 months
Preoperational - Toddlerhood (18-24 months) to childhood (age 7)
Concrete operational - Ages 7-12
Formal operational - Adolescence through adulthood.
Define the term Egocentric.
Egocentric - Thinking only about yourself, without regards for other people’s feelings.
How can stress affect development?
Physical health damaged if long term Feels irritated/angry hard to sleep poor mental health lack of concentration loss/gain of weight mental health issues
How can a fall in income due to redundancy affect development?
Less food therefore weight loss cheaper food high in wrong calories loss of social development money worries, fear of debt anxious stressed less luxuries
