what is Deposition
the laying down of sand, gravel, mud or pebbles carried by wind, flowing water, the sea or ice
what is Hydraulic action
the force of the river breaking down the river bed and bank
what is Abrasion
the pebbles grinned by the water force on the bed or banks
what is Solution
dissolved by the river makes the water carry the particles of the rock
what is Attrition
rocks hit off each other from the current or waves breaking down the rock
what is Bouncing
Smaller sized particles are picked up and dropped by the river
what is suspension
a way of transporting very fine sediment in the river current.
what are the stages of rivers
upper course(youthful stage)
middle course(mature stage)
lower course(old age stage)
what is the upper course
the section of the river nearest the source
what is the middle course
the second in the river in-between the upper and lower course
what is the lower course
end of the river flowing into another body of water
what is an oxbow lake
formed when a meandering river or stream erodes the outer banks of a bend, while the inner banks are deposited with sediment
what is a floodplain
low lying land the is next to a river with a higher chance to flooding
what is a Delta
At the mouth of the river is a landforms that deposits sediment material often forming a triangle shape
what is a meander
erosion bending the rivers into a swirly design
what is a channel
a waterway between two land masses or a narrow body of water connecting two bodies of water
what is a levee
human made barrier to stop the chance of flooding
what is a tributary
a river or stream flowing in a large river or lake
what is a confluence
two or more bodies of water connecting to a single channel
what is a estuary
water body with fresh water from rivers merging with sea water
