What is Qualitative data?
Any data which produces textual and detailed information; helps you understand what you are looking at
What is Quantitative data?
Any data which produces numerical data, which can reveal patterns and trends; is quick and cheap
What is primary data?
Data is collected by the sociologist for their specific research good as it is specific to the research.
What is secondary data?
Data that is already collected and available to sociologists; which saves time and is more efficient.
What is validity?
Research gives a true and accurate picture of what is being studied .
What is reliability?
If the same research were carried out, the results produced would be the same - it should be reproducible.
What is representativness?
The sample selected is a fair reflection of the target population, reflecting certain characteristics like gender or ethnicity.
What is generalisability?
Being able to make claims about the wider target population from findings to conclude.
What are pilot studies?
Small-scale practices for the main research can give early warning signs of any problems that may arise in the main research, like ethical problems.
