A

Prussian three class franchise was abolished, army and navy were responsible to the Reichstag, not the kaiser. Chancellor and his government were made accountable to the reichstag.

What was the kiel mutiny on 28 october 1918

A

naval leadership had orderedthe German fleet at Kiel to engage in one last suicidal atttack against5 the British navy. The German soldiers were unwilling to give their lives in a pointless battle when war was already lost. Kiel mutiny sparked the German revolution from below.

A

Due to mass strikes and protests by the people, On 9 November 1918 Prince Max announced that the kaiser would abdicate his throne and prince Max would hand power to Freidrich Ebert.

Schiedmann went out to the balcony of the Reichstag and spoke to the crowd, ending witht eh words ‘Long ive the German republic’, Schiedmann ensured that the German monarchy was no more.

A

who were the Freikorps ?

A

parliamentary organisations made up of returning soldiers and Germans too young to have served in the army. Freikorps were violent and anti-communist, Ebert welcomed the Freikorps.

Who formed the KPD and what happened to them.

A

Karl Leibknecht and Rosa Luxemburg, formed the communist party of Germany. KPD declared a communist revolution and occupied buildings in Berlin. Rosa Luxemberg argued the time was not right for a revolution, but the majority of the party voted in favour of a revolution. Between 10 and 13 January, the Freikorp crushed the revolution mudering captured communist prisoners. On 15 January, Leibknecht and Luxemburg were arrested, tortured and brutally murdered.
