16
Q

how would you take imps for a denture which as a loose fitting surface but the teeth are not worn and in good condition?

A

remove undercuts
wash impression taken using close mouth technique and light bodied material (silicone or eugenol)

17
Q

how are imps castes up for a new fitting surface?

A

impression poured in stone
overcast in plaster over occlusal surfaces of teeth (ensures teeth in the same position)

18
Q

how is a new fitting surface made on a denture?

A

imps (closed mouth)
casted with over cast
fitting surface and palate removed
cut back denture placed back into overcast
(held together by sticky wax)
palate is added in wax
flask injection method

19
Q

what are the common types of denture fractures?

A

midline
tooth detachment
loss of flange
acrylic saddle detaches from cocr baseplate
clasp fracture/ bent

20
Q

why do dentures fracture?

A

impact
acrylic in thin section
work hardening of metal
parafunctional habits
occlusion - deep overbite
soft linings
denture processing problem - porosity
bonding between tooth and base acrylic or acrylic and cocr

21
Q

how can a midline denture fracture be repaired?

A

if fractured pieces can be located together
disinfect and sent to lab
cast poured, fracture area removed, new acrylic processed

22
Q

how can a denture be repaired if a piece is missing?

A

impression taken with fractured denture in mouth
disinfected
cast poured and new acrylic processed into defect

23
Q

how may a denture be repaired if the acrylic has broken away from cocr?

A

may need to add retentive tags
solder on tags and/or use 4-META or silicoat cocr to retain acrylic

24
Q

what are temporary repair materials?

A

self-cure acrylic
cyanoacrylate glue

25
Q

what are the types of PARTIAL denture additions?

A

immediate addition
post-immediate addition
retention

26
Q

what is an immediate addition?

A

when a tooth is lost after denture construction and tooth added on the day of xLA

27
Q

what is post-immediate addition?

A

when a tooth is lost after denture construction and at a later date a tooth is added

28
Q

what is a retention addition?

A

when denture retention is inadequate a clasp is added to try and improve retention (usually wrought stainless steel clasp)
